Ta'pez vs Jackie Clawson
Feb 22nd, 2006, 6:28pm

OFF: Part I

ON:

Ta'pez was exhausted, seven matches, day long. He did not have the stomach for much more. The Lunch incident with G'trell had soured his mood, and having to fight a bunch of dishonorable petaqs did little to improve it. The highlight was Kur'rk - but that match had unnerved him and contributed little to his already festering anger over the situation that once more he was going to face during this tournament.

He entered the ring to face his last match opponent. It was the Caitian admiral.

Jackie looked up, tightening her grip on her betleH as Ta'pez stepped into the ring. She was weary, beaten, sore, hurt and wounded and in a lot of pain, but the Caitian did her best not to show it as she repositioned her betleH in her hands preparing for the fight that was  to come.

'Just one more match' she silently told herself, mentally holding herself up and telling herself to tough it out for just one more match.  She did not intend to quit, nor did she intend to give Ta'pez  an easy fight even if he did win all the previous rounds against his  opponents. She would do her best even now.

"Last match. Loser buys the bloodwine?" She offered, cocking her head to the side slightly as she prepared herself for the upcoming fight.

Ta'pez chuckled. "Sounds like a fair offer to me."

The referee went through his little banter as usual and then hurriedly stepped outside of the battle area.

"Admiral." Ta'pez said while raising the sword.

Jackie nodded curtly, raising her own blade, forcing herself to concentrate on the battle ahead and ignore anything else. Odds were not in her favour, but the Caitian wasn't going to let that stop her.

She watched Ta'pez, waiting for him to make the first move as she tried to guess what was on his mind.

Unlike before Ta'pez decided to end this match quickly, he didn’t want to go against the Caitian in a show or test of endurance.  He launched quickly - probing attacks - conservative and safe, hoping for the admiral to forget herself and make some mistake that would take her  down.

Jackie held up her blade to fend off his attacks, where she could, she  returned the favour by sending her blade at Ta'pez only to have it blocked by his blade. Gritting her teeth, the Caitian averted yet another attack as she thrust her blade out at the Klingon in a series  of moves in an effort to catch him with her blade, at the same time  watching out for his blade. She was up against someone who was way more experienced than her, she might as well give him a fight and make it harder for him to win it.

They disengaged and circled, Ta'pez tried to display his strengths hide his weaknesses and most of all save his strengths.

Jackie let out a low growl as she circled along with Ta'pez, watching his every move, watching for any signs of something he might do, watching for a weakness, waiting for a good moment to strike.  Tightening the grip on her betleH, the Caitian's tail flickering behind her, she did her best to hide her pain, and concentrate on the opponent in front of her.

In a swift move that briefly jarred her senses, the Caitian swung her blade around and aimed it at Ta'pez's side. Ta'pez jumped to the side but not before another piece of his armour was shredded.

He growled himself and the Caitian found herself in the midst of a maelstrom of attacks.
The battle once more grew fierce. The crowd watched intently, they wondered whether the Klingon would make it, because no matter what it seemed that at this point the Caitian was the one with more stamina.

Blows were exchanged, kicks and sweeps given and received and received and nothing could help.

Jackie deflected almost all the blows that came her way whilst ducking some of the others and having no choice but to receive yet other blows. The Caitian gritted her teeth, clearly in pain but she refused to give up as she swung her blade around once again. She tensed up as she shifted her position slightly and their blades locked in place. Tightening the grip on her betleH, Jackie glanced at her opponent silently, her eyes watching and waiting for his next move.

OFF: Part II

ON:
Ta'pez knew that he could not stave this Caitian of for a long time - they had battled for far two long and his aching body was letting him know that not much of this could go on for much longer. Gathering the remaining reserves within him Ta'pez launched another attack. The blows were quick and powerful. The skill of not killing the opponent was something that most people decided to give up and up until now even Ta'pez had held back from the blows he knew could work but were neither honourable nor healthy for the opponent. Walking this balance was difficult and this match had stretched it far, very very far.

The crowds roared as they fought bitterly, each side oohing and aaahing every time one of them almost broke the defences of the other.

Jackie growled, repeating to herself she was not giving up this time, as she fended off Ta’pez’s attacks and returned the favour with a set of her own blows aimed at Ta’pez.  They fought for several minutes, their blades clashing, both avoiding or blocking most of the blows until the Caitian made a move to lock their blades together at the ends, realizing that that was a mistake at the last moment.  She caught the look in her opponent’s eyes as he thrust his blade down in a sharp move taking Jackie’s blade and Jackie along with it. He released his blade at the last moment sending Jackie stumbling, the Caitian let go of one end of her blade as it hit the ground.

Her ears twitched as she heard the unmistakeable sound of something snapping.  For a moment she thought she lost the match, but no, she still had the blade in one hand, the other seemed to be buried into the ground. Ta’pez gave up the initiative and took a step back allowing his opponent to recover briefly.

Jackie lifted the betleH up grasping it into both hands again, and gaped at the broken ends on the other side. The odd of her winning this fight had just gotten a lot slimmer. Glancing at her opponent, an odd look in her eyes, she held the blade firmly in her hands as she nodded to Ta’pez to continue the fight. She wasn’t giving up this time.

Ta'pez glanced at the referee for a second. He though this would be the end of the match - even though he himself thought the blade though broken was still usable. With the referee not saying anything the temporary halt in the game resumed.

Ta'pez launched another series of attacks. Although at this point he was near exhaustion from the many and long fights he had today.

The Caitian parried.  Grasping a tighter hold on her betleH to compensate for the broken edges, with renewed energy she launched a volley of strikes on Ta’pez, her teeth gritted in defiance and refusal to give up and lose now as each strike drove the Klingon back further.

It wasn’t long before Jackie landed a well aimed strike at her opponent’s betleH to knock it on the ground. Jackie stumbled, catching herself before she did anymore damage.

She blinked, shaking her head a little as she lowered her betleH. Her gaze met Ta’pez’s eyes and briefly the Caitian wasn’t sure what to say to the Klingon.

“Guess the bloodwine’s on you…” she spoke up, her voice a little shaky as she caught her breath.

After her loss to Satian, Yolen'da decided to watch Jackie fight her last match. The one they had fought had been one of the best of the tournament in Yolen'da opinion. At least of all her fights.

She watched the moves intently, focussing on the agility of each of them. T'apez was a practically legendary fighter for those who had watched him fight, and stories of fights with him were told even in the Federation.

Jackie managed to beat him though, through a long and hard fought road, she took her advantage at the proper split second. If she had missed it, who knew what would happen.

Yolen'da cheered with the crowd as Jackie won, and watched her in obvious pain, still do everything she could to soak up the victory.
