Locked and disarmed... (Jackie Clawson vs Elmasri)
Feb 14th, 2006, 2:51am

ON:
<<Wall of Honor>>

Clad in a navy jumpsuit, her long hair tied into a ponytail behind her, Jackie stood at the wall, glancing at the numerous bat’leth’s displayed there. She was amazed at the sheer number of them there, each one looked different one way or another. Some had seals of the house their owners belonged to on them, others didn’t.  Some were much simpler in design, whilst yet others were more ‘elegant’ and creative in design.

Jackie quickly spotted her blade, one of the simplest amongst the others and hefted it off its hinges.  Under Serenity Base security personnel’s guard, Jackie headed off to the arena, her bat’leth in hand, about to test her skills in a new environment and take them to an entirely new level and fight in a public arena instead of the holodeck.

She pushed her nervousness away and set her mind on her task, to do her best with the bat’leth in the arena.  The only difference was that the opponent wasn’t Mark, another ‘friendly sparring partner’ or a hologram, and if she lost this match she wouldn’t get to fight in the tournament; and Jackie wanted to at least go for one round now that she was at the tournament. She owed it to herself after all these years.

<<betleH Arena>>

Jackie entered the arena, her bat’leth by her side appearing calm and collected and rather relaxed on the outside; she spotted her opponent, a Bajoran male, who blinked and stared at her for a moment as he looked her up from top to bottom as if he’d never seen a Caitian before.

“What’s the matter? Haven’t seen a Caitian before, Major?” Jackie asked a smile on her lips as she faced the Bajoran, reminding herself that really this wasn’t too different from what she did before with the bat’leth, it was just in a different place, everything else was the same or similar.

He shifted from foot to foot, switching his bat’leth to his other hand before saying anything else.

“Elmasri Negus” he said, still slightly staring at the Caitian as she reached out to shake his hand as a greeting.

“Jackie Clawson.” She spoke back. “Let’s get this show on the road.” She noted.  The Bajoran nodded curtly in agreement, slightly raising his bat’leth and gesturing towards the main arena.

Both stepped into the circle hefting their bat’leths up almost at the same time as their eyes met and locked onto each other for a few moments.

Jackie closed her eyes for a moment to mentally connect with the blade as she shifted the weight, finding the more useful position as the blade became one with her in her mind. Opening her eyes she looked at her opponent, holding up her blade, Jackie smiled nodding lightly to say she was ready.

The Bajoran and the Caitian stood with their blades raised, waiting for the other to strike first as the Caitian’s tail shifted from side to side watching her opponent, holding her bat’leth poised ready to defend herself.

“C’mon Major. I’m sure if we’re going to stand around all day long, one of us will lose this match in a very embarrassing way.” Jackie remarked, smiling slyly before slightly repositioning herself to face her opponent.

The Bajoran shifted his bat’leth for a moment, looking for an opening; somewhere where he can strike Jackie to knock her blade out of her hands.  He noted that she was doing the same.

‘No point in waiting around’ Elmasri thoughts, with that he shifted his weight then brought his blade up to attack the Caitian.

Jackie blocked his attack, their blades locking at the top; she kept the hold as she took a step back to prevent herself from getting jabbed by his blade by accident if it slipped out of the lock she established with her blade.

Jackie released a low growl, revealing her fangs for a moment as she strained against the weight the Bajoran was applying with his blade onto hers. Taking a stronger hold on her bat’leth, the Caitian let her shoulders drop as if relaxing her hold on her blade, the Bajoran pressed harder; Jackie took the weight off her bat’leth and leapt off to the side as he stumbled past her his bat’leth unlocking from hers as he did so.

Jackie whirled around her bat’leth ready to defend herself; she stepped her bat’leth slightly lowered as she waited for the Barjoran to catch himself in order to prevent himself from falling on the ground.

“Interesting move” He remarked once he steadied himself, bringing up his bat’leth again as he faced her.  The Caitian raised her bat’leth again as she smirked.

“Don’t tell me they didn’t teach you that in the resistance.” She noted.

“They taught us many things…” he casually replied, shrugging lightly. Suddenly he rushed at her, his bat’leth swinging, Jackie moved to react, her own bat’leth raised to defend herself from the incoming attack.

The sound of metal clashing against metal was heard for the next few minutes with the two opponents matching eachothers’ skills and moves, both able to foresee each others’ moves until the Caitian stumbled, her senses jarred as Elmasri’s bat’leth caught hers in a well aimed and executed hit.

Jackie grunted, giving her head a shake and gritting her teeth as she recovered tightening her grip on her blade. Holding it up in front of her the end blades pointing at a slight angle aimed at her opponent as the Bajoran swung his blade towards her aiming for her right shoulder.

Jackie ducked out of the way swinging her body around, her bat’leth raised to block his. Their blades met and briefly locked with a clang before both brought their own weapon up to prepare for another round of moves.

The Caitain’s ears flickered at the swoosh as her opponent’s blade passed by her once again, barely missing her. Jackie parried thrusting her blade at the Bajoran at the same time. The man leapt back momentarily letting go of one side of his bat’leth. The blade came down aimed squarely at his opponent.

Jackie raised her bat’leth to block his, but before the blade ended its run, the Bajoran took a step forward taking the blade firmly into both hands and swinging it swiftly at the Caitain. She let out a short yelp of surprise as the edge of his bat’leth caught her left hand leaving a several inch deep cut on her hand causing her to briefly loosen her grip on her bat’leth from the left side.

The Bajoran took the chance and brought his bat’leth up and swung it around, this time aiming at her right side to knock the bat’leth out of her hands completely.

“Oh no you don’t” Jackie let out a growl; the gash on her hand woke up her senses and instantly engaged her instincts.

With a surge of power, fuelled  by injury, the Caitian brought her bat’leth up to meet her opponent’s successfully blocking his attack as their blades locked again; both the Caitian and the Bajoran refusing to give up.

Jackie’s eyes gleamed, her fangs exposed as she boldly took a step forward slightly shifting her blade at that and thus establishing a firmer lock on the Bajoran’s bat’leth with her own weapon.  If the Bajoran moved, he’d risk loosing the bat’leth if Jackie took that moment to attack, Jackie knew this well.

Their eyes locked once again until Jackie offered her opponent a sly grin, her eyes narrowing causing him to tense up and get a tighter grip on his blade. Jackie clicked her tongue against her teeth expecting that very same move from her opponent. Her eyes still locked onto Elmasri’s, the Caitian took a step back at the same time twisting her blade to the right and suddenly swinging it in a semi-circle careful to keep the lock in their blades for a brief moment. A brief moment is all she needed…Jackie thrust her blade upwards causing the Bajoran with little choice but to involuntarily let go of his bat’leth.

Jackie’s bat’leth took her opponent’s blade with it; she grasped her blade with her right hand lowering it by her side and flashed the Bajoran a smile as his blade clattered to the ground.

Rear Admiral Duerkes watched the Bolian's blade fall to the ground. The crowd cheered as Clawson was named the winner. She got lucky he thought to himself.  Had this been a first blood match she would have been out with the little scrape of the hand.   She had some potential but would have to watch herself in future rounds if she wanted to go farther.

Still Wade was glad to see another Task Force CO competing.  Each year as the word kepts getting out they continue to get better warriors at the competition. This was the best Bat'eth Competition in the galaxy. No one could tell him otherwise.

Wade looked to Clawson and bowed slightly in awknowledgement of her win. He then moved on to prepare for the next match.

Jackie turned to face Rear Admiral Duerkes and nodded lightly aknowledging him. Glancing at her left hand, where the blood was starting to cake up on top of the gash making the Caitian more aware of it as the adrenaline rush of being in combat started wearing off. She got lucky, she was well aware, if she'd have been any less prepared she'd probably drop the bat'leth from surprise. BUt then if she was any more prepared this wouldn't have happened at all.

'Could've been worse' Jackie thought to herself. 'live and learn, next time be on your toes' she told herself.

Jackie smiled to herself as she flipped her bat'leth up in the air and caught it in her right hand and trotted off the arena to return the bat'leth to the wall of honor.
