Look here: http://betleh.batlh.com/cgi-bin/db/db.cgi?shipname=challenge The sparring room was hidden until today but some people tried the 'I want to spar' button and found it.. so, I guess I will make it public now. The idea is you are in the Lucky Strike and you feel like a bit of fun sparring or some flathead spills his drink on you and you want to make him pay. You can challenge him in public and taunt him if he is a coward. Just don't challenge everyone on the list and be a pain. Have a little control. If too many challenges happen, I will have to archive some of the oldest ones. Also, read this: http://betleh.batlh.com/cgi-bin/db/db.cgi?shipname=faq&crewman=faq_Sparringr
oom Before the tourney begins I will review the combat setting of each of the fighters and maybe some of the attendees to make sure there is nothing outragious like an ensign who is a Dahar master. Outside of that I can't do much about the skill people say their character has. I will review the fighters. We expect Bremer and Wolfe and K'Hare and Ta'pez all to have high combat skills. We don't expect Ensign Ghani, a communications officer and pacifist to have a high skill. The program works much like D&D does. Based on the values from the bio, a combat to hit and defense score is calculated. Then a combat is run using a simple combat system and random die rolling. Hit points, representing being tired out, are used up and when you get tired, you rest and stop attacking. If you get too tired, you drop your weapon. There is a functional difference in sparring and fighting to disarm or fighting to first blood (doing strong damage) and just hitting. This is the same combat system used in the ring this year but for the tourney fights, the judges will make the fights happen. For the tourney, your honor setting on your bio will get used. For the sparring room, you can pick the honor each fight. More on how that will work later. Again, the sparring room is for challenges outside the tourney combats. A smart fighter might avoid the room as over time, the star page for the sparring room will start to show relative strength. It will never be exact because of the randomness in the combats, but it will be a hint.
