Title: Keeping up?
Post by K`Hare totlh on Feb 24th, 2006, 3:57am

So, we are over 3000 posts!   How much have you read?  Is it too much?

Answer the poll and post your thoughts about how you read the content here.

Some people just follow their ship and character they know.

Some read about the senior characters they have heard of.

Some just read the fights.

Some just read what they appear in.

I read it all.  Its part of my responsiblity as a judge I suppose, but I would anyway.  I am the only person I know who reads everything on the BF forum.

What do you do?

What changes could be made to make it easier to keep up.

What I do is read all the content in the earliest section and get it done, then I move on.  Then later, after I am gone for a while and come back , I read those sections where there are just a few new things, and then read the next section.  I've almost caught up now.

I dont' read everything, but I do read stuff that involved most of the characters mine has met IC. Threads I'm not involved in, but the characters I know IC are involved in. I read most of the stuff about things. I try to skim through everything, but obviously it's time consuming so I end up picking threads at random that interest me by the subject/topic and read those.

The way I have it set up is I have the main forum in one window of FireFox, and the threads I'm currently active in in the other tabs. I use the main forum to browse through anything of particular interest and open that thread in a new tab to read it there.

I really don't know what changes you can make to make it easier to keep up... the current set up is okay, and we all know not everyone reads everything. Some don't even read or post anything at all.

I read certain people's stuff, and that changes as the tourney goes on and I meet new people.  I also skim a few threads, depending on how much time I have.

I'd hate to see any restrictions on posting.  I've had a blast meeting as many new folks as I can, and have been in as many as 10 threads at one time between my two characters.  I do like the way new time frames are added, and the only suggestion might be to consider closing old ones as new ones open up.

Personally, I think it's been well run so far and say kudos to the mods for an enjoyable time!

Usually we do close old areas, this year with peoples time issues they've ran longer. I was planning to start closing Day 0 today, I think most of the early scenes are set in stone now.

I try and read everything, until earlier this week I was 100% up to date - then I got ill and keeping up became an issue.

I'm working this weekend so catching up isn't going to happen I don't think, so I clicked 95% this time round.

There are still a couple of things going on in Day 0. "haven't you had enough" thing for instance. and there's one thread that needs to be wrapped up , I just haven't written it up in full yet. (having toruble with the scene)

I threaten to close things but I never do.  The problem is if you post in really old (in character, more than a day behind) you will create situations where you reactions don't read real.

What if someone posts, a day and a half ago "Luke, I'm your father".  Now you have to go to all your threads for the last day and a half and fix them... which makes other people do it too....

You really have decide where you are and only back fill to show stuff you already decided would happen.

Continuity is something that has to be kept up, yeah; some folks seem to be loose canons and not sure where they are from one post to another.

Backfilling stuff is what I'm doing now, actually; at least in part.

I was a day or so behind on things when Wade's dinner just started IC. I still haven't wrapped up the Round 7 match and what came right after it. and I have something else to wrap up that happened way back in Day 0, but we refer to it as having happened in Day 1 and 2. if you have a clear idea of what you're doing and what's happening with you IC.

I putt 95% as I pretty much try to read all, there is only a few I mights stop reading after while.    I usualy start with the character related and most interesting topics caught my attention first (includes new ones)..  Then read others afterwards if/when have time.  If have everything I want done on the board and nothing else to do, I occationaly will go back and read the few that I have skipped over.

As for posting, I post when can where-ever I have something in mind to add or am involved with others first.   Usualy topics of most intrest first.  Timewise, I have skipped ahead some to latest of mid tim posts, but I do a lot of back posting to give the sense that the character is there all the way threw instead of just poping up.  When jumping ahead I may mention something new about the character and then will back post the story for it.  Backposting I try not to add anything not mentioned in later posts.

I've read all the important stuff, and now that I don't have to worry about fights I'm trying to read other threads. Eventually I'll have gotten through it all.

I read 95% on BF. I ignore words games, recruitment and stuff posted in 93.   :-?

Yeah, I think I'm mostly doing the posting so other folks end up reading it.. if they do read it. hehe. but that's why I dont' read as much stuff as I should, I'm normally writing something for the tourney to post. It's a lot of fun to do the writing and character development.

Have to find my catnapper and thank hurt him now... ;)

I didn't know that.  If you weren't such a left wing nut I'd train you to be the next me.

Here to.  Also makes it more difficult in writing out matches.  Far as can Tell K'vok still not been able to write one for the 8 round match

It happens.  Some people disappear.  Some signup and never show up.  We will work on improving this next year.  But its just something you have to roll with.  I know I had two days of offline time this tourney that I didn't expect.

Post by Ta`pez on Feb 24th, 2006, 5:03pm

thats all undernstandable - but a nice lock a week behind after everything is done i think would be most apropriate @ this point.

Title: Re: Keeping up?
Post by Ta`pez on Feb 24th, 2006, 5:38pm

i think that you should lock down the areas at some point - i notice new threads poping up in day 1 and people are not writing their matches.

i am not saying that that is a bad thing - but if we had the focus on the current event i think that things would get done.

But are the new posts made by the people who are meant to be writing their matches instead or those that are already done with the tournament matches?

thats a bit more analysis work then i need to know.  IF more time is needed on individual slots then so be it. but i dont think that the current setup is great.

p2 should be shorter - the fights should be spaced IC.

And I started another whole thread about that a few days ago and already said how I would change it next year.  There might be other changes when the judges review the tourney in a few months.

PhaseII was an improvement I think but it can still be better.  Pacing is the main issue.  But that isn't what this thread is for.

:) Not gonna happen. I can't toe the line as well as Klingons.

Well I've taken some time to catch up on reading instead of posting like a mad bunny.. (I am NOT obsessed, Cash!) so I think I've read about 75-85% of things to date.  (most of the stuff in Day 0 and started on Day 1 now. I've read all the fights before though. I've read the qualifiers back when they were just being posted, so that I could see other people's writing)

I've PMed Wolfe twice and emailed him once... I'm about ready to try hunting him down on AIM or something...

Next year, I vote for all top 16 fighters who don't JP to be disqualified, since the webpage says that the bout has to be JPed.

And I read about 80% of the stuff, but that's mainly because I have no life and I get really really really bored...

I kept up at first, but soon into day one, RL seemed to bite back. Which is indeed a shame (K'Vok, for example, was interested, jping our second match which would be fun to to given our last encounter) buut due to my lack of actually being here, it fell through. I had a couple of plans made with Taylor too, but they seem to not have taken off yet. They are still things plots I want to resolve, mind.

I only read certain posts now though, I can bearly keep up with that.
